Sunset Cruise

Sunset Cruise

Dusk: that golden part of daily life where everything is in a state of transition. The teeming salt marsh is alive with cormorants, herons, and American Oystercatchers, each trying to fit in a final meal before nightfall. The fields of Spartina grass change their hue from green to gold. On the beach the ghost crabs stir in their burrows, anxious for the darkness ahead. Lately the full moon has been seen rising over the island of Wrightsville Beach, its heavenly light reflected in the waves rippling on the waters of Banks Channel.

Unlike the creatures of the marsh, most of us no longer rely on the sky to tell us when night is approaching. Sundials have become a thing of the past, like disco and Cary Grant. Instead we look to our digital watches (or, if we’re being honest, cell phones). With the constant deluge of artificial light from computers and streetlights and car headlights, it has become increasingly enjoyable to unplug from it all, be reminded of our animal nature, and experience sunset like our ancestors did. And there’s no better platform to do so than from the decks of the M/V Shamrock, the Wilmington area’s premiere coastal cruising boat.

We invite you to come unwind with us on our famous sunset cruise. The boat leaves from our dock across the street from the Blockade Runner hotel (275 Waynick Blvd, Wrightsville Beach) nightly at 6:30 p.m. After an evening of historical and ecological narration, adult beverages, island music, chatting with the captain and crew, enjoying being out on the water, and, of course, watching the sunset, we return to the dock an hour and a half later at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are only $30 for adults. Call Capt. Joe at (910) 200-4002 to make your reservation today.
