Winter at the Beach

The time for t-shirts and flip flops has come and gone once again. It flew south with the black skimmers and least terns, down to warmer latitudes to bask in the midday sun, only to return again next spring. In the meantime, however, you can still get out onto the water with us- just remember to bundle up!

We still run two scheduled trips per day to Masonboro Island and through the Wrightsville Beach Harbor, Monday through Saturday, leaving at 12:30 and at 3:00 p.m, respectively. If you want to come with us, just call us at (910) 200-4002 and make your reservation. Other trips are available by request.

The winter birding on Masonboro has been absolutely stunning- the other day, we snuck up on a flock of Great Egrets huddling together in the salt marsh with a couple of Ibis (Ibises? Ibii?), a unique bird with a long, curved bill.

Then we were fortunate enough to get buzzed by a flock of brown pelicans, dinosaurs from the past that touched down on a sandbar near the boat so we could get a closer look.

It has also been a time of celebration at the beach, with the annual Wrightsville Beach Holiday Flotilla just last week. We watched the parade from the deck of the Shamrock, in awe of both the multitude of brightly-colored boats (this one was dressed like the Yellow Submarine)…

… and the stunning fireworks show which launched directly across from our dock at the Blockade Runner.

Speaking of the holidays, if you're still shopping for that loved one who is impossible to buy for, then why not suprise them with a gift certificate from Wrightsville Beach Scenic Tours? We have gift certificates available for all of our premeire cruises- from our Masonboro Island cruise to our History Harbor cruise to our wonderful Sunset cruise. They make great stocking stuffers! To order one, give us a call at (910) 200-4002.

Stay warm!
