Gallinago delicata

A common shorebird; prefers wet, grassy spots. Dark brownish overall, with bold, cream-colored stripes on its back; It has a long bill which it uses to probe in the mud for small invertebrates. Breeds in bogs, fens, swamps, and around the marshy edges of ponds, rivers, and brooks. Has ensory pits at the tip of the bill allow the snipe to feel its prey deep in the mud.
